The GAI is partnering with World Without Genocide and Mount Zion Temple to present the program, “Germany after the Holocaust: From Kristallnacht to Other Genocides.”
Rabbi Spilker will open the program with kaddish, a memorial prayer for the dead, to honor those who perished in the Holocaust and in other catastrophes. This will be followed by a short readers’ theater play, “Germans who Saved Jews during the Holocaust” and a talk by Dr. Andrew Port, author of Never Again: Germans and Genocide after the Holocaust. The program concludes with “The Line,” an imagined dialogue between Nazi resister Sophie Scholl and Hitler’s secretary. This event has been changed to online-only.
Two Continuing Legal Education credits are available for Minnesota lawyers and ‘clock hours’ for Minnesota teachers, nurses, and social workers.
Dr. Andrew Port is a Professor of History at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. His research focuses on modern Germany, communism and state socialism, memory and comparative genocide, labor history, and social protest. He has been frequently invited to lecture across the United States and Canada, as well as in Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, and elsewhere in Europe.
