In Good Company, a theatrical walking performance in St. Paul, immerses you in an unexpected encounter with your own city. It is not ‘just’ a performance—it’s an invitation to move forward, together.

During these walks, you are invited to reflect on what it means to feel seen, heard, and respected. While our lives and beliefs may differ, many of the values we care about—freedom, fairness, prosperity, and basic decency—are more widely shared than we often realize. How can we reconcile our diverse visions of the future and collectively dream our way toward a more perfect union?  Sometimes, it starts with simply taking a walk together.

The walk begins at 3 p.m. at The Germanic-American Institute St. Paul (301 Summit Ave.) and goes to Raspberry Island (2 Wabasha St. S.), returning around 6 p.m. to the Germanic-American Institute for a shared meal of soup and bread. The performance will conclude around 7 p.m.

Local performers and artists include Fern Renville, Mark Billy, Minnesänger (German choir), dancers from the Turkish American Association of Minnesota (TAAM), and the Funky Spuds Brass Band.

Don’t miss the FREE community meal after the walk!
Enjoy Hungarian goulash, butternut squash, roasted tomato, Tuscan bean and vegetable soups—plus injera, fry bread, pretzels, and a loaded bread basket with sun-dried tomato Asiago butter. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available

In Good Company is created and performed by Chicago-based Theatre Y, an ensemble dedicated to radical inclusion and public engagement through performance. The project was initiated by the Goethe-Institut Chicago, Germany’s global cultural institute, as part of a national series that explores how shared public experiences can foster understanding, empathy, and civic imagination across diverse communities.

This same project is happening in Milwaukee, St. Paul and Chicago. The project features a collaboration with Helgard Haug of the internationally renowned German performance collective Rimini Protokoll, known for radically expanding the possibilities of theater in public space.
