Kinderstube Program Update
The Kinderstube program is currently on pause while the Germanic-American Institute conducts a sustainability review. As a result, the program will not open in August. We appreciate your understanding and value your partnership as we evaluate the program’s future. If you have any questions, feedback, or input, we encourage you to share them with the GAI leadership by completing our Google Form.
About Us
Our German Immersion Preschool Kinderstube is designed to combine elements of both the modern German Kindergarten and the American preschool. Our preschool program is located in St. Paul. Kinderstube is a fully licensed preschool program by the State of Minnesota for children ages 33 months to 5 years old.
Our pedagogy nurtures the development of cognitive, physical, creative, and social-emotional skills, complemented by the acquisition of vocabulary, grammar, and cultural knowledge related to German-speaking countries. Through our total immersion approach, Kinderstube offers a curriculum that is fun, authentic, meaningful, interesting, and engaging, which helps children expand their identities and their access to the world through the German language. Our teachers respect and prioritize young children and their needs as active and curious explorers of knowledge. Our Kinderstube is proud to be parent-aware rated, demonstrating high-quality practices in our classroom.

Yes, please fill out our wait-list request form. Wait-listed families will receive pre-registration materials before registration opens to the general public.

No prior knowledge of German is required. Children must be 33 months old and potty trained by their first day of attendance.

Kinderstube is located at 301 Summit Ave, Saint Paul, MN in the historic Carriage Haus. The building sits behind our main Haus and is adjacent to the parking lot off of Farrington Avenue.

We no longer have a Minneapolis Kinderstube program. The program in Minneapolis officially closed in August 2025.
