Pysanky European Egg Decorating

Come share in the joy of artistic expression at our Pysanky Egg Decorating Workshop! Discover the centuries-old Central and Eastern European folk art tradition of crafting vibrantly hued and highly detailed works of art on a simple egg using the wax-resist dye technique.

Event Highlights:

  • Date & Times: Saturday, March 21 from 3-6 pm, Sunday, March 22 from 1-4 pm. Each occurrence is a complete workshop. 

  • Experience Level:  All skill levels welcome! This craft is not suited for younger children, but it’s a great activity to bond with your teen or have fun with a group of friends. Best for ages 12 and older.

  • Materials: All supplies provided including an egg stand or loop for hanging, and box for storing

What to Expect:

  • Learn the Art of Pysanky: Our experienced instructor will guide you through the step-by-step process of creating beautiful Pysanky eggs. From basic patterns to advanced designs, explore the rich symbolism and vibrant colors of this traditional craft.

  • Hands-On Experience: Immerse yourself in the hands-on experience of applying wax and dyes to eggs, creating stunning and unique designs. Feel the magic as your creations come to life!

  • Connect with Tradition: Discover the stories behind different symbols and motifs used in this ancient art form.

This is an in-person workshop. Pre-registration is required. Students will be able to complete at least one egg during the 3-hour workshop and learn how to prepare eggs for dyeing. The workshop takes place in the Ratskeller of the GAI which is not ADA-accessible.
