Join the Germanic-American Institute for a thought-provoking evening with author Steven E. Mayer as he discusses his powerful book, My Father Against the Nazis. Blending memoir, history, and biography, the book chronicles Mayer's decades-long journey to understand his father, Paul— a German Jewish refugee who escaped Nazi Germany.

More than a traditional book talk, this program invites attendees to reflect on the book's central themes through selected readings, historical context, and commentary from the author. Together, we'll examine the experiences of German Jews under National Socialism, the lasting effects of intergenerational trauma, the moral choices people face in times of rising authoritarianism, and the enduring importance of learning from history.
